Read the passage carefully and choose the best answer to each question out of the four alternatives.
India has ranked 107th out of 121 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022, down from the 101st position the previous year.
Jointly published by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerlife, the GHI lists countries by ‘severity’. Yemen has ranked in the lowest position at 121, while the top of the list is dominated by European nations including Croatia, Estonia and Montenegro. Among Asian nations, China and Kuwait have ranked the highest.
The GHI has been brought out almost every year since 2000; with this year’s report being the 15th one. A low score gets a country a higher ranking and implies a better performance.
The reason for mapping hunger is to ensure that the world achieves “Zero Hunger by 2030” one of the Sustainable Development Goals laid out by the United Nations. It is for this reason that GHI scores are not calculated for certain high-income countries.
While in common parlance hunger is understood in terms of food deprivation, in a formal sense it is calculated by mapping the level of calorie intake.
But the GHI does not limit itself to this narrow definition of hunger. Instead, it tracks the performance of different countries on four key parameters because, taken together, these parameters capture multiple dimensions — such a deficiency of micronutrients — of hunger, thus providing a far more comprehensive measure of hunger.
The GHI looks at four main indicators:
Undernourishment, Child Wasting, Child Stunting, Child Mortality
While India has been consistently recording lower values for the four indicators, it started going up in 2014 for undernourishment and the prevalence of wasting in children. The proportion of undernourishment in the population went from 14.8 in 2014 to 16.3 in 2022, and the prevalence of wasting in children under five years jumped from 15.1 in 2014 to 19.3 in 2022.

As per the passage, what are the four indicators GHI looks at to rank a country?

  • Access to education, financial condition, mental Health, physical health

  • Nourishment, Child Growth, Child Immunity, Parents

  • Undernourishment, Child Wasting, Child Stunting, Child Mortality

  • Age, Height, Physical health, Mental ability

Read the passage carefully and choose the best answer to each question out of the four alternatives.
Once a God-intoxicated sadhu came to the Kali temple of Rani Rasmani, where Sri Ramakrishna lived. One day, he did not get food. Seeing a dog eating the remnants of a feast, he embraced the dog, said, 'Brother, how is it that you eat alone, without giving me a share?' and began eating along with the dog. After the meal, he entered the Kali temple and prayed with such devotion that it sent a thrill throughout the temple.
When he was leaving after his prayers, Sri Ramakrishna asked his nephew Hriday to follow the man, and to tell him what the man might say. After Hriday had followed him for some distance, the sage turned around and asked, 'Why do you follow me?' Hriday said, 'Sir, give me some teaching!' The sage replied, 'When the water of this ditch and yonder glorious Ganga appear as one and the same in your sight, when the sound of this flageolet and the noise of that crowd have no distinction to your ear, then you will reach the state of true knowledge.'
The Master, upon hearing this, remarked, 'That man has reached the true state of ecstasy, the true state of knowledge. The Siddhas roam about like children or unclean spirits - or even like madmen. Indeed, they wander in many disguises.'
'This is gold, this is brass,' is ignorance. 'Everything is gold,' is knowledge.

You have a brief passage with 3 questions following the passage. Read the passage carefully and choose the best answer to each question out of the four alternatives.
Merely days after the release of the National Crimes Records Bureau report that stated that those killed in road accidents-1,55,622 in 2021 had reached the highest level since 2014, industrialist and the former chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry, and a fellow passenger lost their lives on Sunday when the car they were travelling in met with an accident near Palghar, Maharashtra. Police sources were quoted as saying that the passengers were not wearing their seat belts. The tragic and avoidable accident should heighten awareness of the need for car safety deployments and their enforcement by road safety authorities. It is well understood today that the use of low-cost restraint systems such as seat belts and airbag equipment have helped reduce car passenger-related fatalities effectively. Studies, quoted in a road safety report prepared by the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Centre, IIT Delhi, in November 2021, estimated that “air-bag deployment reduced mortality by 63%... lap-shoulder-belt use reduced mortality by 72%, and combined air-bag and seatbelt use reduced mortality by more than 80%”. The enforcement for belt wearing for rear seat occupants has been almost non-existent. This is a shame as a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, U.S., shows that rear seat occupants were eight times more likely to suffer serious injuries in a mishap if they did not buckle up than if they did.

You have a brief passage with 3 questions following the passage. Read the passage carefully and choose the best answer to each question out of the four alternatives.
A tailor ran a shop in a town. He was a good-natured jolly fellow. A man in the town had a pet elephant. The elephant went drinking at a pool out of the town daily. It passed by the tailor’s shop. The tailor gave him a bun every day. In course of time, they became good friends and were well pleased to meet each other. The tailor always waited for the elephant to come to him and the elephant was also there at the usual time. One day, the tailor had a dispute with one of his customers. He was feeling unhappy and cross. Meanwhile, the elephant arrived and put his trunk into his shop through the window to receive the friendly bun as usual. The tailor instead of giving a bun pricked its trunk with a needle. The elephant felt hurt at this but silently went his way to drink. The elephant quenched his thirst and then filled his trunk with dirty, muddy water. It came back quickly, put its trunk in, and emptied it. The whole shop looked as if it was plastered with mud. All the fancy dresses and rich wedding robes were mud-stained and badly spoiled. The tailor was sad but it was too late.

What did the tailor prick elephant’s trunk with a needle?

  • He did not want to spend money anymore on the bun he used to give to elephant.

  • He had a dispute with one of his customers and was unhappy.

  • He had a fight with his family members that concerned with the elephant.

  • The elephant came in his shop and he was not pleased about it.
